Don Batie and his wife, Barb, farm northeast of Lexington. Don traces his roots in Dawson County to his great-grandfather James Pickering, who immigrated to Plum Creek in 1873. Don and Barb own and farm the original homestead, which was filed in April of 1873. They live on James’ tree claim that was filed in 1879. Don is also active on several other boards, including Dawson County Farm Bureau, the Dawson County Planning Commission and the Nebraska Natural Resources Commission. Don and Barb have two daughters, Julie (Doug) Loudon of Grand Island and Cicely Batie of Washington, D.C.
